Friday, bloody Friday.
Lauren here, your Magic Bullet Blender Kitchen Magician and U2 enthusiast.. and damn … I’d like to know what is going on today in YOUR world, because mine is beyond comical. One of those days where everyone is just yelling stuff and losing their minds – but can’t stop laughing. It’s crunch time and there are air sealed pieces of compressed meat stuck to the outside of my cubicle wall that signify absolutely nothing [I’m not kidding, see photo.. don’t judge..].

On that note – this kid’s been burning the midnight oil for a while now and in an attempt at replenishment and treating my body right in at least one way – see today’s recipe. I told you I would give you a healthy one. Haven’t lied to you yet [partially because I don’t really know how to. Get all awkward and speak really quickly. Brutal.]
Lets Tango. With Mango.

MAGIC BULLET BLENDER PARTS

  • [1] Magic Bullet Blender Tall Cup [or party mug.. I only have a tall cup with me at work. I blend at work. Builds character..]

  • [1/2 Cup] vanilla, nonfat yogurt
  • [approx. 4] ice cubes

INSTRUCTIONS

So I mean yes, in an ideal world today’s lunch would probably be some salmon, while sitting at an Oceanside table catching rays and chatting it up with the likes of John Candy, Andy Garcia and Sammy Hagar – but hey, I’m being realistic. For once.

Okay… back to work…. with an occasional surfing o’ youtube updating my bangin playlist of the day.

I’ll hit ya up next week but in the meantime, and as always, happiest blending – from my big heart – to all of yours, you little lovebugs you.

Ah.. have the holidays set you back a few days…? I don’t know about you but on this forefront the kiddo was STRUGGLING. Party after party after party after gathering after family thing after New Years Eve.. which by the happens to be my least favorite holiday of the year.

Hands down, by far. I’d rather be forced to hang out alone in an 82 degree room wearing a floor length down jacket, solely with David Hasselhoff, a handle of whiskey and 14 undercooked hamburgers then go out on New Years Eve.

Lauren here, your Magic Bullet Blender Kitchen Magician, and this year I DID go out on New Years Eve to Shrine, the nightclub at Foxwoods. And until last night, I was unsure if I would ever be the same..

By the time Monday night rolled around – I would say ‘misery’ was an appropriate term. Not only did I miss the Winter Classic because we had to work [which is fine.. it’s busy.. hi Bosses :)] but I just wasn’t bouncing back. 28 is the new 63 in my book and I was searching high and low for a life saver.

My mother, the ever infamous and often mentioned ‘Debbie the Demolisher’ was telling me about how tomatoes are great to get your tush back in gear – absolutely loaded with vitamins and nutrients that clearly my body was completely deprived of.

So what did she do? She got after it. Per usual. Man handled that Magic Bullet Blender like it was Chris Santos after an intense ‘Chopped’ judging round and got me BACK to normal.

** Disclaimer: this does not remove the bags from under your eyes, as you can tell by the photograph that goes along with this. I know, it looks like I just climbed out from under a rock and I apologize.

See below and get back on your A game. It’s a new year – enough of this nonsense.

MAGIC BULLET BLENDER PARTS:

  • [1] Magic Bullet Blender Tall Cup
  • [1] Magic Bullet Blender Cross Blade

INGREDIENTS:

  • [2] small / medium plum tomatoes, halved & seeded
  • [1 1/3 Cups] tomato juice
  • [2 T] lemon juice
  • [2 tsp] Tabasco sauce
  • [2 tsp] honey
  • [1/2 tsp] cayenne pepper *Optional: I like my stuff with a kick but you do not need this if it doesn’t appeal

INSTRUCTIONS:

–          This is quite basic. You take everything listed above, put that liquid life preserver into a tall cup, blend with your cross blade for about 10 seconds until smooth and chug.

If that doesn’t help, try you-tubeing some old school WWF wrestling match clips. Last night I was watching ‘Razor Ramon’ crush this dude with his finishing move, ‘the Razor’s Edge’ [he is so creative… ] and if nothing else it put a smile on my mug.

Alright kiddos – like I said earlier. Busy. Season. Which means I’ll be stopping by Thursday with something that will help make your life a little bit easier… but then again, when using the Magic Bullet Blender, everything seems a little bit easier – right 😉 ?

Until next time and as always, Happiest Blending – from my big Heart – to all of yours. Oh – and Happy New Year! Oh hay, 2012.

Hey folks! It seems this week we’re on a bit of a cranberry kick as we gear up for Thanksgiving!

So I thought I’d continue on with that thread and offer up a quick and easy smoothie for when you’re on the go! And believe me, this week has been ALL about being on the go.

However, just because you have a busy schedule, doesn’t mean you can’t savor some autumnal flavor!

So throw these four things in your tall Magic Bullet cup, and run out the door with this antioxidant-packed boost!

Cranberry Boost

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup fresh cranberries
  • 1 whole ripe banana
  • 1 cup lowfat milk
  • a few ice cubes

Give this all a quick whiz with your cross blade, it might take a good 20 seconds or so to get all those cranberries chopped up.

Voila! Amazing!

If you’d like, you can substitute the milk with a non-dairy alternative. You can also leave out the ice  (it’s chilly in November!). And, as I always recommend, try to get organic ingredients if you can.

6 days until Thanksgiving! What ingredients would you like to see used next week??

Tata!

Lizzie

Hey hey hey! Happy Hump Day!

It’s the middle of the week. Everything is crazy! It’s like everything is going 100 miles per hour! The city lights are swirling around you as you run to catch the train! You burst through JUST as the doors are closing, getting stuck there for a moment between the doors until they open again to let you in. Yeah, that’ll be a bruise.

All this hustle and bustle…when do I get time to myself? I really need some time to sit and soak up the autumn flavors…but there IS no time!

Unlesssssss you have your Magic Bullet, and THIS awesome recipe for a Pump It Up Pumpkin Smoothie!

And awayyyy we go!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup canned pumpkin
  • 1/2 cup rice or soy milk
  • 1 whole banana
  • a few ice cubes
  • 1-2 table spoons agave nectar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • pinch of sea salt

Directions:

Throw all this stuff into a Magic Bullet party cup, give it a spin with the cross blade attached, and shazaam!!!

Now you can savor those autumn flavors in no time!

Hopefully this will bring a little sweet treat to your mid-week! Drink up!

Hey everyone! Happy Friday!!

If you’ve been keeping up with me, I’ve been attempting to eat a little more healthily…aaannnndddd falling off the wagon…and getting back on the wagon again!!!

Well this time, I’m hoping to stay on the wagon…at least until the holidays, when I will happily take a standing leap and do a filp midair will disembarking from the wagon into a swimming pool filled with gravy.

But until then, I’m using all my willpower to try and stay on the wagon, limiting fatty/fried foods and alcohol.

The problem with dieting is that it can be hard to find foods that are low in fat and FILLING, especially when your body is used to metabolizing junk.

I have been playing around with alternative sweeteners in this process, and I finally bought my first bottle of Organic Raw Blue Agave Nectar last night. Now it’s debated whether or not this is a healthy sweetener, but I’ve never been much of a sweets person, and I think that just might be because I haven’t expanded my palate for those flavors. Besides, how could it be all that bad if it comes from the same plant as TEQUILA 😉

Anyway, agave nectar comes in light and dark varieties. The lighter has a, well, lighter flavor, while the darker is a bit more caramel-tasting. Now, how can I argue with a sweetener that tastes like candy? So that’s what I’m using in today’s recipe, a Berry Necessary morning boost that will keep you full until lunch!

Berry Necessary Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup non-fat plain or vanilla yogurt
  • 1 whole banana
  • 1/3 cup frozen or raw blueberries
  • 1-2 tsp organic raw agave nectar

Directions:

1. Throw everything in your tall Magic Bullet cup, blend for 10 seconds.

2. Drink up!

I didn’t even use a party mug or transfer this to a glass. I drank the whole thing out of my Bullet Cup, anticipating every last drop! I’m good to go until lunch!

That’s all for now, folks. I’ll be back on Monday with another recipe for my young Bulleteers!

Stay safe!

Full Throttle Thursdays … appropriate for today

Put the pedal to the metal and KEEP on going …

Guess what today is…..!

It’s ALMOST Friday J !

And I am ALMOST without brain cells.

Lauren here – your Magic Bullet Blender Kitchen Magician – and this is my first week back at work after 2.5 off. LOVING the new job – with that one tiny set back of 4.5 hours in the car PER DAY –  until I find a new place.

Now, the reason I am giving you all of this useless information is because I am mentally shot. If having to use your brain for the first time in however long doesn’t do it, then spending all of that time in stop and go traffic  will undoubtedly ruin you.

Regardless, anyone who falls under ANY of the following categories: former roommate, co-worker, ex-boyfriend, family member, had a class with me in college, works in one of the Allston toll booths on the MA pike, cashier at Shaws in Dorchester, met me in passing between the hours of 6A and 5P, etc, etc – is WELL, WELL aware that I am a CAFFEINE. FIEND. THE MORE. THE BETTER.

Hey it’s my one vice.

One in the morning.

One mid morning.

Lunch time.

Late afternoon.

Below is my NEWLY added, ‘super early morning until I get TO a coffee joint’ beverage of choice – using what else, but that strapped on my belt, no nonsense, life saving tool of the trade – the Magic Bullet Blender.

ICED COFFEE WITH A KICK

Magic Bullet Blender Parts:

  • [1] Magic Bullet Blender Party Mug
  • [1] Magic Bullet Blender Cross Blade

Ingredients:

  • [1 Cup] coffee
  • [1/4 Cup] skim milk (Use whatever you like here – whole milk, heavy cream – whatever floats your boat)
  • [1] shot of espresso
  • [3] ice cubes

*Note: I get my coffee and espresso shot from my ‘coffee pod’ machine

Instructions:

  1. Add all ingredients to tall cup
  2. Blend for ten seconds
  3. Wake up and get going

Again – use whatever type of milk YOU like. Add the sweetener of YOUR choice. And for those of you who aren’t psychotic about this get after it goodness like me – you have made your OWN iced coffee, at home, and saved yourself a couple of bucks!

Well kiddos – I’m scooting to a meeting. Keep an eye out for me next Tuesday and please, keep it goin.

In the meantime, Happiest Blending my Little Beans – from my big heart in CT – to all of Yours.

Enjoy the weekend!

Hey everyone!

I’m back from a long weekend away. I’m SURE you must have missed me 😉

You know what I missed? My Magic Bullet!

This is the time of year of hearty roasted vegetables and savory delights! Autumn is by far my favorite season. It’s such a relief to have this crisp air rolling into the city, and everyone looks so cute in sweaters and scarves.

Anywho, obviously, with this colder weather rolling in, I’m going to be making a lot more soups with my little Bullet. Today I want to share with you a sweet potato soup so hearty and delicious, you won’t believe there’s no dairy!

And away we go!!!

Dreamy Vegan Roasted Sweet Potato Soup

Ingredients:

  • 3 tbs cold pressed extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 red onions
  • 4 lbs sweet potato
  • 8 cups vegetable broth
  • 1/2-1 cup raw macadamias, soaked for 4-6 hours
  • a few whole macadamias for garnish
  • chopped cilantro or coriander
  • 1-2 tsp celtic sea salt

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

2. Peel the sweet potato and cut into big chunks, and quarter the red onions.

3. Toss the veggies in olive oil and sea salt.

4. Roast in the oven for about 45-60 minutes.

5. Bring the vegetable stock to boill Add roasted veggies and simmer for about 10 minutes.

6. Allow to cool slightly, then, using your tall Magic Bullet cup and Cross Blade, blend in batches with the macadamias.

7. Return to stove and simmer for another 2-3 minutes, adding cilantro/coriander to taste.

8. Garnish with a couple macadamia nuts and devour!

Enjoy, y’all!

See you next time!

~Lizzie

Guh!

It’s that time of year when the seasons are a’changin’.

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE autumn, but every year around this time I get stuck with a case of the sniffles.

But this year, thanks to the Magic Bullet, I can chase away those germs before they find me….and today, I’m going to share an immune-boosting recipe so you can do the same! And in no time!

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 cup blueberries, fresh or frozen
  • 2 – 3 kale leaves, with stalks
  • 1/2 cup broccoli
  • 1/4 Water

Optional: a handful of goji berries

Throw all this in your large Bullet cup with the cross blade, blend for about 10 seconds. Easy as pie!

Take two of these and call me in the morning!

‘Til next time….

~Lizzie

Terrific Tuesday’s – back atcha.

Lauren here, your Kitchen Magician and recent vagabond. In 4 days I took to the east coast and travelled over 1,200 miles – without stepping foot in an airplane. Now I know many people claim ‘restless leg syndrome’ is perhaps a made up thing – but give me a big swan dive into the fountain of youth, a lap with the Loch Ness Monster, and coffee with Big Foot- I now beg to differ.

Regardless, one of my trips was to Baltimore to work at an exhibit booth for one of my dear family friends at the Natural Products Expo East.

Since my venture, I have decided  to try and take a healthier route and try my luck with some detox shakes (and no, this has nothing to do with the fact that I have to put on a bathing suit next week…….)

Yes, I wish it was a cup of pesto too.

I do strongly recommend that you try it out. Gives you a good energy, and don’t forget to crank some major H2O with it!

Magic Bullet Blender Parts:

(1) Magic Bullet party mug

(1) Magic Bullet cross blade

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 Cup, kale
  • 1/2 Cup, blueberries
  • 1/2 Cup, water
  • 1 Tablespoon, Ginger root

Recipe:

  1. Add all ingredients to your party mug and blend for 10 seconds.
  2. Drink, feel good, and enjoy!

Now the nice thing about this is that it is versatile. I personally like blueberries, plus their added antioxidants – but if strawberries are more your speed, then change it up and go for the gold kiddos.

On that note – I’ll be checking in a couple more times this week, and the chances of one or both recipes being cheese based are very good.

Until then my little ruffage rebels, blend on – from my big heart in Boston, to Yours!

Xo Lauren

Hey everyone!

It’sssssssss FRIDAYYYYYYYYY!!!!! Yay!! Are you all stoked for the weekend?

I was unpacking one of my Magic Bullets today, because I wanted to start using the juicer attachment, and within about 3 seconds of pulling out the base and the tall and short cups, THIS LITTLE CRITTER hopped into the box! That’s Larkin, everyone. She’s just 1 of the 4 (!!!) cats we have here in our 4,200 square foot loft.

Anyway, as you know Friday generally means it’s time for COCKTAILS, but since I’m back to school, I’m eliminating a lot of alcohol from my diet. (I’m sure once midterms come around, I’ll be singing a different tune.)

So, since I’m using APPLES this week, I wanted to share with you a delicious CARAMEL APPLE SMOOTHIE! Perfect for a decadent weekend treat! It’s also an homage to Larkin, because she has that interesting caramel color

Here we go!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup apple juice
  • 1 whole apple, peeled and chopped into small pieces
  • 1 cup low-fat vanilla yogurt
  • 1/4 cup caramel ice cream topping
  • 2 tbs smooth peanut butter

Directions:

Pour the apple juice into an ice cube tray and let this freeze for about 2 hours. When complete, remove the cubes and throw into your large Bullet cup. Add the remaining ingredients and blend for about 10 seconds….

Feel free to drizzle more caramel on the top!

Now take a load off! you deserve it after this week!

~Lizzie
