Citrus Smoothie

Although I love smoothies for breakfast, some mornings, I don’t want anything too sweet. Hence, my favorite citrus smoothie! It is made of a blend of fresh banana, orange, and lemon. This smoothie is more tangy than sweet and makes a great breakfast drink to start off your day. I add a little orange juice so it isn’t too sour, which creates a nice balance. You can chop and freeze your banana the night before, so in the morning you just have to add it to the smoothie and blend. What do you think – do you prefer sweet or tangy smoothies?

Citrus Smoothie

Ingredients
  • 1 banana
  • 1/2 orange
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 1/4 cup yogurt
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • A few ice cubes (optional)
Instructions
  1. Chop and freeze the banana for at least 30 minutes (can do this the night before).
  2. Add all ingredients to a Magic Bullet cup and blend.

Makes 2 smoothies

Red, White & Blue Blast

Ingredients

Red Layer

  • 1/2 cup strawberries,
  • 1/2 cup almond milk (or other milk substitute)
  • 1 tsp raw, organic honey
  • Ice cubes

White Layer

  • 3/4 cup almond milk (or other milk substitute)
  • 1 tsp raw, organic honey
  • Ice cubes

Blue Layer

  • 1/2 cup blueberries
  • 1/2 cup almond milk (or other milk substitute)
  • 1 tsp honey
  • Ice cubes

Directions

  1. Make the red layer and pour equal amounts into 2-4 glasses. Put glasses in the freezer for 10 minutes.
  2. Make the white layer and take glasses with red layer out of freezer. Pour equal amounts of white on top of the red layers. Put in freezer for another 10 minutes.
  3. Make the blue layer and take glasses with red and white layer out of freezer. Pour equal amounts of blue on top of the red and white layers.

Optional – garnish with mint and blueberries on top!

This makes an ice cold Blast that’s delicious in the summer months and at your next gathering. For an extra special treat, use popsicle molds instead of glasses and leave each layer in the freezer for at least two hours. Once done, you’ll have beautiful Red, White & Blue Pops!

Banana Pie Smoothie

This banana pie smoothie tastes just like a banana cream pie in a glass! My favorite thing about it is the graham cracker crust topping. Freeze the bananas ahead of time (already peeled and chopped in half). I like this smoothie really cold, so I also like to add some ice, too. You can make this smoothie for breakfast, as an afternoon snack, or as a healthy dessert alternative!

Banana Pie Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 banana, frozen
  • ½ cup plain, non-fat yogurt
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp graham cracker crumbs, plus more for topping
  • 3 ice cubes
  • Whipped cream for topping

Directions

  1. Slice the frozen banana into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Add all ingredients to a Magic Bullet cup and blend until combined.
  3. Top with whipped cream and graham cracker crumbs.

Makes 1 smoothie

I discovered a really tasty post-workout smoothie last week: cocoa, almond butter, banana, milk and honey. The milk, banana and almond butter provide protein and electrolytes, making this smoothie an excellent pick-me-up after a work-out. The cocoa adds antioxidants and a rich chocolately taste. I usually skip the whipped cream, but once in a while, if I have some in my fridge, I splurge! Try topping it with sliced almonds, too.

Cocoa Almond Butter Smoothie
Ingredients
  • 1 cup low-fat milk (or milk alternative, such as almond milk, coconut milk, etc.)
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • 2 Tbsp almond butter
  • 2 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa or raw cacao powder
  • 4 ice cubes
  • Light whipped cream for topping (optional)
Directions
  1. Add all ingredients (except for the whipped cream) to a Magic Bullet cup and blend well.
  2. Top with whipped cream and sliced almonds, if desired.

Makes 2 8-oz smoothies

This delicious spiced apple green smoothie is the perfect nutrient-packed super drink to start off your week. To be totally honest, it took me quite a while to warm up to green smoothies, mostly because the thought of kale or spinach in a smoothie just sounded plain gross. After trying out a few (some were pretty disgusting!), I found some easy green smoothie recipes I actually like because they taste good. You can’t taste the spinach at all! The natural sugar from the apples and banana, as well as some from the coconut milk, means this smoothie tastes sweet without the need for additional sweeteners. Just pop those banana slices in your freezer while getting ready for work so they will be ready just in time before you have to go.

Cinnamon Apple Green Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 handful raw organic spinach, rinsed (~1 cup)
  • 1 cup organic coconut water
  • 1 small organic banana, peeled, chopped and frozen
  • 1 small organic apple, peeled, cored and chopped
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • ⅓ cup crushed ice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a Magic Bullet cup and pulse until the spinach is blended well.

Makes 1 16-oz smoothie, or 2 8-oz smoothies

This smoothie recipe is for all of my strawberry lovers out there! Strawberries are my favorite fruit; I can never eat enough of them! In the mornings, I like to mix strawberries with oatmeal, so I thought a strawberry oatmeal smoothie would be a perfect way to change up my breakfast routine. Frozen strawberries give this smoothie a refreshing texture and the oatmeal adds in some healthy fiber. Smoothies are perfect for those mornings when you’re in a rush. It is during these mornings where I am saying TGFMMB (Thank God For My Magic Bullet)!

This healthy Blue Chia Machine Smoothie is my new favorite this week! It has blueberries, blackberries, banana, spinach and chia seeds. After months of forgetting, I finally bought some chia seeds to start adding to my diet. If you aren’t familiar, chia seeds contain fiber, omega-3 fatty acids and many nutrients. They are truly a superfood! I prefer them to flax seeds; for flax seeds’ full benefits, you have to grind them up. Not so for chia seeds – you can just eat them whole!

Ingredients

  • ½ cup plain non-fat yogurt
  • ½ banana
  • ⅓ cup fresh blackberries
  • ⅓ cup fresh blueberries
  • ⅓ cup frozen spinach
  • ½ cup orange juice
  • 1 tsp chia seeds

Directions

  1. Add all ingredients to a Magic Bullet cup and blend.

I love adding fresh fruit to my smoothies, but I also love the texture of frozen fruit. This recipe uses both. By adding freshly chopped pineapple to frozen strawberries, not only do you get a refreshing texture, but you also get that fresh pineapple taste. This smoothie is a little on the tangy side, so if you like it a bit sweeter, feel free to add more honey to sweeten things up. Add a slice of fresh pineapple on the side of each glass just before serving to give it a tropical touch. Now, where is my straw hat, bathing suit and beach towel?

Ingredients

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 cup freshly chopped pineapple cubes
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp honey

Instructions

Valentine’s Day Smoothie

  • 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1/2 raw or steamed beet
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 dollop all natural vanilla greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp raw, organic honey
  • 1 1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk

Blend well in your Magic Bullet and garnish with a sprig of mint.
